I'll present some simulations looking again at one older and one
recent simulation based paper:
de Boer's thesis on evolving vowel systems, where I'll ask
whether his relatively detailed phonetic modelling was important to
the results; and
Boersma and Chláková's recent work on evidence for innate features
based on perceptual maps for vowels, where I'll argue that rather
similar results can be obtained entirely without putting any features
in the "grammar".
