The CoNE entry for $godchild/n, for example, directs the user to the etymology of $god/n and to that of $child/n. The $child/n etymology deals with all reflexes of OE cild as attested in LAEME CTT: reflexes found in forms of ‘godchild’ can be found under MIDDLE ENGLISH ETYMOLOGY - MORPHOLOGY where grammels with the -k extension (e.g. /n-k, n<pr-k, nOi-k, etc.) identify forms of ‘child’ that appear as the second element of a compound (NB in $fosterchild/n, $knavechild/n and $knightchild/n as well as in $godchild/n).
