Description, documentation and development of Thok Reel, a language of Atuot

 

 

The project is concerned with description, documentation and development of Thok Reel – a language spoken by the Atuot people.

 

Thok Reel is a Western Nilotic language of the Dinka-Nuer subgroup. This subgroup comprises of Dinka, Nuer and Thok Reel. Thok Reel is spoken by approximately 50,000 people known as Atuot. The Atuot live in Yirol West area of Lakes State, Southern Sudan (co-ordinates roughly Latitude: 6.557, Longitude: 30.504).
