The Linguistics & English Language Postgraduate Conference will take place on Wednesday 20 May to Friday 22 May 2009.

The LEL Postgraduate Conference is an annual event where postgraduates can present a paper or work in progress and discuss their research with peers. It offers a great opportunity to refine thoughts, share concerns, and receive constructive criticism in a supportive and convivial environment. It is also a great way to gain experience in conference presentation.

We would like to offer as many postgraduates as possible the chance to present papers, so time for presentations will be restricted to twenty minutes, with a 10-minute discussion period to follow. The option of presenting a poster is also available. We welcome any papers relevant to linguistics and English language from postgraduates of Scottish universities, although we will give priority to LEL students of the University of Edinburgh, especially to our second- and third-year PhD students who are usually expected to participate in the conference (unless granted exemption by their supervisors). For first-year PhD students and MSc students, participation is optional but keenly encouraged.

The 2009 Organising Committee consists of postgraduate students in LEL: Florence Bonacina, Chrissy Cuskley, Francesca Filiaci, Wojtek Gardela, and Gareth Roberts.
