Until recently, I was a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, at the University of Edinburgh. I will shortly take up an Addison Wheeler Fellowship at Durham University. I completed my PhD. in 2009, and I held ESRC Early Career Fellowship between 2009 and 2010, also at the University of Edinburgh.

My principle research concern is the cognition, origins and evolution of human communication and language. I also have a general theoretical interest in the application of evolutionary thinking to human cognition, behaviour, society, and culture. As such, my work is highly interdisciplinary, and spans topics in evolutionary biology, cognitive science, linguistics, and anthropology.

I have recently received the British Psychological Society's 2010 award for Outstanding Doctoral Research, and the European Human Behaviour and Evolution Association's 2011 New Investigator Award.
