Accomodation
Accomodation is very expensive in Boston and Cambridge. We apologize for
any inconvenience this might cause, since we have expended considerable
effort trying to find cheaper options. Because the conference will occur
during the school year, dormitory rooms will still be occupied by students
and will not be available.
We have negotiated reduced conference rates at three hotels, the
Sheraton, the Charles and the Kendall. See below for details of each,
but note that
the discount rates require that people mention the evolution of language
conference AT THE TIME OF BOOKING to the get the discount rates.
The conference hotel is the Sheraton Commander Hotel, a convenient
5-minute walk from the conference location, and we have negotiated at low
$150/night rate with them. This is the cheapest hotel room you will find
near Harvard Square. We have reserved 50 rooms at the Sheraton at a low
conference price of $150 (single or shared). These are available first
come-first served. The shared rooms have two washbasins, one in and one
outside the bathroom, and so will be quite convenient for those who wish
to double up and halve the price. The price is the same for singles or
shares, so you can half this price by teaming up with someone else.
We have a group rate of $165/night at the posh Charles Hotel, in the
middle of Harvard Square, which is an excellent deal for such a nice
hotel.
We also have a low rate at the Kendall Hotel: $129 single or double
(incl. continental breakfast.). This is the nearest hotel in Cambridge
cheaper than the Sheraton: it is located in Kendall Square in the heart of
MIT (in the completely renovated 1896 Victorian Engine Firehouse) This is
quite convenient, only two stops on the subway (no more than 15 minutes).

Slightly lower rates may be available further from Harvard, for example in
the Back Bay region of Boston (e.g. Back Bay Hilton, 40 Dalton Street,
Boston, MA 02115-3123; Tel: 1-617-236-1100 Fax: 1-617-867-6104) or in the
nearby suburbs of Somerville or Medford. However, these more distant
options will require 15-30 minutes transportation each way.
There are two small bed & breakfasts nearby, Irving House and Harding
House, with some rooms available and slightly lower prices.

The Sheraton Commander
The Sheraton Commander Hotel at Harvard Square offers services and
amenities such as a fitness room, restaurant, cafi-lounge, rooms service,
valet parking, 24-hour cab stand, dry cleaning service and much more.
Guest rooms are furnished with telephones with data ports, coffee maker,
hair blow dryer and an iron and ironing board.

Sharing a hotel room
Several people have asked about the
possibility of organized sharing of hotel rooms, to save money. If you
would be willing to share a hotel room, we will put your relevant
details on a webpage list, linked from the conference website. After
that, it is up to anyone interested in sharing to make their own
contacts and arrangements with people whose names appear on the list.
