Fourth International Conference on the Evolution of Language

Evolution of Language:
Fourth International Conference, 2002.

Harvard University

Wednesday March 27th --- Saturday March 30th

Local Organizer: Tecumseh Fitch (Harvard University)

Conference and Registration Information

Harvard is in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a part of Boston (see travel information below). The weather could be cold and rainy, please plan accordingly. The conference will occur all day on all four days, so we anticipate that you will want to arrive on March 26 (Tuesday) evening, and leave either March 30 in the evening or March 31 (Easter Sunday).

Registration Fee

The fee of $170 covers attendance, all program and conference materials, refreshment breaks, an opening reception, and several social events during the week. It does not include the (optional) banquet, which costs an additional $50.
There is a reduced registration fee of $100 for currently-enrolled students. The payment for the reduced amount should be accompanied by a letter on university notepaper signed by a supervisor, certifying that the person attending is a registered student.

Please fill out the registration form and include it as a paper copy with your check. The relevant information is included below.

Please mail registration forms with checks to our registrar,

Ruth Tincoff, Ph.D.

Early Registration

As we will only print books for people who pre-registered, you will need to register if you want to be sure to get a conference proceedings book. We just need a show of hands, essentially, so if you wish to register now but pay cash at the door that will be fine. Please send your name, institution, email and planned arrival date to Dr. Ruth Tincoff, tincoff@wjh.harvard.edu>. But please be assured that only people who can show proof of registration, in the form of a conference badge, will be permitted into the conference sessions. (We have to balance our books.)

Payment and Cancellation Policy

Full payment must be received with the completed registration form. Registrations without payment will not be confirmed, and cancellations must be made in writing. Full refunds will be granted up to 30 days prior to the start of the program. Due to program demand and the volume of preprogram preparation, cancellations within 30 days prior to the start of the program will be subject to a 10% cancellation fee. Cancellations after the start of the program and `no shows' are subject to full payment. Please download and print the plain text registration form and mail it, with your payment.

Travel Options

In addition to flying into Logan International Airport in Boston, participants can reach Harvard by flying into Providence, RI or Manchester, NH (approximately a one-hour drive). Check with your travel agent for further details. It is an easy half-hour subway ride from Logan Airport to Harvard Square or about $30 cab fare.

Local transportation: Boston has an efficient public transportation system with buses and a subway (the "T"). Given the justified bad reputation of Boston drivers and the difficulty of finding parking around Harvard we advise conference attendees NOT to drive to the conference, or to rent automobiles. No parking will be provided for conference attendees, and cars parked without permits around Harvard are quickly ticketed. Parking in Harvard Square costs around $20/day.

Participants can receive a 30% discount on certain Amtrak train fares to Boston, as well as a variety of airfare discounts. For more information, call Harvard Travel at 1-800-610-5640 (#2) and refer to Group Code 1000-94.
